Brown Bag Organics has some recommended immunity boosters for those who
are wondering what the best things we might do to prevent infection. We all have
heard the guidelines of good hygiene, such as washing your hands often, not touching
your face and keeping social distance and wearing masks in public places.
- GARLIC & ASTRAGULUS: Some other ways to help keep your immune system strong is to begin adding garlic to your daily routine. Not only should you pair it with foods that you love, but also you can take doses of garlic as a natural antibiotic. There are pill forms of garlic, as well as raw garlic that can be mashed and taken if you are brave and can stomach it. It should be thought of simply as a medicinal supplement. I mix it with yogurt and take a dose before bedtime! Another supplement to add is astragulus. It can be taken in pill form once a day to boost your immunity.
- DRY BRUSHING your body before you bathe or shower is a good habit to begin. Dry Brushing your skin daily will help stimulate blood flow and also helps to slough off dead layers of skin. Remember to use a loofah or stiff brush with upward motions towards your heart for the lower body, and with downward motion on the chest and arms above your heart.
- SALT INHALER: Ways to enhance your breathing and lung capacity starts with taking deep calming breaths during the day. You can increase your lung capacity also with a Salt Inhaler. The inhaler is something that can naturally help condition your lungs to begin to breathe and inhale deeply; and you can remember to use if by keeping it next to your bed at night.
- ESSENTIAL OILS: Another good habit in the shower- steam with Eucalyptus Oil will help open your sinuses and allow mucus to flow. Use the oil while you shower to help clear your sinuses and the mucus buildup in your system each day. Essential Oils are a simple thing to keep on hand. Oils such as Lavender will calm you in the evenings; and Eucalyptus and Peppermint oils help your sinuses and breathing to start the day.
- SHOES OFF! One good tip that has long been connected with the East is this. Remove your shoes when you come inside your home! When you come in from shopping or from public places, have an area designated to remove your outer shoes and wear slippers or other shoes inside to keep the shoes from the stores that might contain a virus or germ in the outer room or outside
- MEDITATION & YOGA: Your mental health is important to maintain a sense of calmness and purpose in your life. Meditation and Yoga are ways to focus on things in your life that will help to ease tension, to calm you, to center your thoughts and bring focus to your day. If you find ways to help others and to keep your mind occupied with useful projects, it will help you through these rough times.
Other ways to keep occupied: Work on organization and
decluttering at home. Have a list of some fun things to do and to read and
watch, without spending time focusing on the darkest news and most threatening
thoughts that tend to overwhelm all of us at this time.
Finding ways to begin to heal, within your body, and in your
own mind and through your thoughts and actions, you will find it easier to help
you through this difficult time during the pandemic. Spiritual focus and mental
strength will help build a good foundation for all the rough days in our lives
that we must face. Learning to do so now will help you not only today and in
the days ahead, but in the coming years ahead when you build good habits and
strengthen your immunity, both in your body and in your soul.
